Steps to a healthy pregnancy

Now that you know you’re pregnant, it’s more important than ever to take care of yourself both physically and emotionally.

You can boost your chances of having a problem-free pregnancy and a healthy baby by following a few simple guidelines.

Get early prenatal care.

Good prenatal care is important for you and your baby. To discuss your pregnancy, including screening for potential medical conditions, blood tests, vaccinations and your medical history or medications you may be currently on,  Contact Us to book an appointment with George. During your first appointments, George will also be able to take an ultrasound of bub and listen to that first heartbeat.

Caring for yourself means caring for baby too.

Watch what you eat.

Eating for two? Not quite! You may be surprised to learn that you only need about 300 additional calories per day during your pregnancy. Make sure you get plenty of protein as you now need 70 grams a day compared to 45 grams before you became pregnant. And while your calcium requirement remains the same, it’s more important than ever that you meet it, which can be a challenge.

Keep away from undercooked eggs and meat, unpasteurized dairy products and juices, raw seafood and deli meats to avoid ingesting bacteria that could harm your baby. Try to avoid fish that contains a high level of mercury or other contaminants.
